PUBLIC DATA
ACCESS HACKATHON

learn about the
Public Data Access Hackathon

The Public Data Access Hackathon is organised by Mozilla, AlgorithmWatch and the DSA 40 Data Access Collaboratory. It will take place on April 9 and 10 2025 in the Mozilla Office Berlin and online. The purpose of this event is to assemble researchers to collectively formulate and send coordinated requests for platform data. The objective of sending these requests is not only to hopefully receive data, but also to accompany and upskill researcher-applicants in the formulation of the strongest possible requests, and also to create an evidence base that can be used for further policy and advocacy. We have prepared two tracks for the workshop but are open include additional suggestions in the final agenda:

Track 1: Joint Access to Obviously Public Data (OPD)

This track will focus on accessing data which should be obviously covered by Art. 40(12) DSA, and which many organisations might be likely to want or request independently anyway. The focus will be around how to practically operationalise a request which is intended to have many requestees for the data, as well as potential options for new organisations to be added.

Track 2: Highlighting Unexplored Public Data (UPD)

This track will data on the needs and creativity of researchers at the Hackathon to consider how the concept of requesting “data [that] is publicly accessible in their online interface” can and should usefully expanded beyond obvious expectations e.g. engagement metrics.

Unfortunately, signups for the Hackathon have already closed.

Please reach out to contact@dsa40collaboratory.eu to be added to the waiting list.
