ACCESS HACKATHON

Public Data Access Hackathon
The Public Data Access Hackathon is organised by Mozilla, AlgorithmWatch and the DSA 40 Data Access Collaboratory on April 9 and 10 2025 in the Mozilla Office Berlin and online. Unfortunately, since the in-person space is limited, we will provide you with a link to participate online in case we are exceed the on-premise capacities.
The purpose of this event is to assemble researchers to collectively formulate and send coordinated requests for platform data. The objective of sending these requests is not only to hopefully receive data, but also to accompany and upskill researcher-applicants in the formulation of the strongest possible requests, and also to create an evidence base that can be used for further policy and advocacy.
We have prepared two tracks for the workshop but are open include additional suggestions in the final agenda:
Track 1: Highly Disseminated Content
We will request comprehensive lists of highly disseminated content, where views, comments, or other engagements have exceeded reasonable thresholds. This dataset should clearly be in scope of 40.12 and could be made of one or several of the following: TikTok, YouTube, Google Search, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Snap, X, LinkedIn, Bing.
Track 2: Platform Design Data
We will request data on the general configuration of the platform design, including documents specifying the placement of icons, colours, fonts, and other elements displayed the platforms’ user facing interfaces. This request will draw on existing work on platform affordances and app walk-throughs and would be the first of its kind, potentially creating a completely new dataset.
